Effective date: 22 July 2026. Section 11 updated 21 August 2026.
How the Discovery Subscription works
You receive the box, frequency and contents shown when you subscribe. The subscription renews automatically until you cancel.
The renewal price, next payment date and delivery frequency are shown before sign-up and in your account.
We send an advance renewal reminder to the email address on your account, normally 5 calendar days before payment.
Log in to your Boteane account and open the subscription area to change preferences, skip, pause or cancel before the renewal cut-off shown there. If you are struggling to manage the subscription in your account, email info@boteane.co before the cut-off.
Once payment has been taken and packing has begun, a change may not be possible. Your statutory rights remain protected.
The separate Discovery Flavour Promise covers one eligible tea per paid box, with no more than three approved claims on the same account in any rolling 12 months.
We will never make cancellation deliberately difficult. Confirmation is sent when a cancellation is completed.
Full legal terms
1. Subscription contract
By choosing a Discovery Subscription, you enter into a recurring consumer contract with Boteane LTD. The contract supplies the box and frequency displayed at sign-up in exchange for recurring payment. It continues until cancelled in accordance with these Terms or ended by us.
2. Information shown before sign-up
Before you subscribe, we will clearly display the recurring price, taxes, delivery charges, payment and dispatch frequency, box contents or curation method, any minimum commitment, introductory offer, free gift conditions, renewal method, change cut-off and cancellation route. The order button will make clear that placing the order creates an obligation to pay.
3. Renewal and payment authority
You authorise us and our payment provider to charge the saved payment method on each renewal date for the amount shown in your account or renewal notice. Renewal dates may shift slightly where a scheduled date falls on a non-processing day, but any material change will be communicated.
4. Renewal reminders
We send a reminder to the account email address normally 5 calendar days before each renewal payment. The reminder identifies Boteane, the expected amount and payment date, and explains how to skip, pause or cancel. You are responsible for keeping your contact details current.
We will update reminder timing and content where necessary to comply with the subscription-contract provisions of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 when those provisions apply.
5. Box contents and preferences
The Discovery Subscription is curated. The product page explains whether you select a taste family, individual teas or "surprise me". Teas may vary from box to box and across brands, seasons and availability. We will supply the stated number and quantity of teas, subject to any clearly disclosed substitution rule.
Where a selected item becomes unavailable, we may substitute a reasonably comparable tea consistent with your chosen preference. We will not make a material reduction in quantity or value without informing you and providing an appropriate remedy.
6. Skipping, pausing, changing and cancelling
Log in to your Boteane account and open the subscription area to skip, pause, change preferences or cancel before the cut-off shown in your account and renewal reminder. If you are struggling to manage the subscription there, email info@boteane.co before the cut-off. Cancellation takes effect for future renewals once confirmed. We will provide confirmation by email or another durable format.
If a renewal payment has already been taken and fulfilment has begun, we may be unable to stop that box. This does not remove any statutory cancellation right that applies to the renewal or goods.
7. Cooling-off and statutory cancellation
Any statutory cooling-off right applies independently of the contractual cancellation route. The application of cancellation exceptions to opened tea depends on the particular product and circumstances. We will not rely on a health, hygiene, perishability or regular-rounds exception unless it genuinely applies and the required information was given before the contract was made.
8. Failed payments
If a payment fails, we may retry the payment, ask you to update the payment method, delay dispatch or suspend the subscription. We will not charge an undisclosed penalty. Repeated failure may result in cancellation after reasonable notice.
9. Price changes
We may change the recurring price for future renewals. We will give at least 30 days' clear notice before the first payment at the new price, explain the change and remind you how to cancel. If a mandatory local rule requires longer notice or additional rights, that rule applies.
10. First-box gifts and introductory offers
A first-box gift or introductory benefit is available only on the conditions shown with the offer, normally once per customer and household and while stocks last. Unless stated otherwise, it has no cash alternative. If the entire qualifying purchase is validly cancelled, the gift should be returned unused with the goods. Any deduction for a retained gift will be made only where lawfully and prominently disclosed.
11. Gift subscriptions and prepaid plans
A prepaid or fixed-term gift subscription ends at the end of the purchased term unless the checkout clearly states that it renews automatically and the purchaser actively agrees. A gift recipient does not become responsible for payment unless they separately enter a contract.
11.1 One payment. A Gift Discovery Membership of three, six or twelve months is paid once, in full, at checkout. It does not renew. The number of boxes is fixed by the term purchased.
11.2 The gift email. At the purchaser's choice we may send the recipient an email carrying the purchaser's message, either as soon as the order is complete or at 9am UK time on a date the purchaser selects, or no email at all. The email is sent on the purchaser's behalf, names the purchaser as the sender and is a one-off transactional message. It does not subscribe the recipient to marketing.
11.3 Delivery address. The purchaser may give the recipient's delivery address at checkout, in which case the first box is dispatched in line with our Delivery terms. Alternatively the purchaser may ask us to obtain the address from the recipient by email. In that case the order is held and nothing is dispatched until the recipient, or the purchaser, provides a delivery address. The first box is dispatched once an address is received, and the purchased term runs from that first dispatch.
11.4 If no address is received. Where we have been asked to obtain the address and none has been provided within twelve months of the order date, despite reasonable reminders to the recipient and the purchaser, the amount paid is converted to Boteane account credit in the purchaser's name. Credit is not forfeited, carries no expiry and may be used against any purchase on boteane.co. It has no cash alternative except where a statutory right to a refund applies. The purchaser may supply an address at any time within the twelve months and the gift will proceed in full.
11.5 The recipient's account. Where the purchaser gives us the recipient's email address, we create a Boteane account for the recipient so that they can see their deliveries and manage delivery dates. No payment details are held on that account and the recipient is never charged. The purchaser confirms that they have the recipient's permission to share their name and email address with us for this purpose. Our Privacy Notice explains how we use it.
12. Discovery Flavour Promise
The separate Discovery Flavour Promise applies to one opened tea from an eligible paid five-tea box, claimed within 14 calendar days of delivery. No more than three claims may be approved for the same subscription account in any rolling 12 months. The approved voluntary remedy is Boteane account credit under the published Flavour Promise Terms. Faulty or misdescribed goods are handled under statutory rights instead.
13. Ending or suspending a subscription by Boteane
We may suspend or end a subscription for fraud, abusive use, repeated payment failure, misuse of offers, unlawful conduct, inability to supply the service or a serious breach of these Terms. We will act reasonably, explain the principal reason where appropriate and refund any prepaid amount for goods we will not supply, unless a lawful set-off applies.
14. Changes to the subscription service
We may make reasonable operational changes that do not materially reduce the service. We will give clear advance notice of a material change to price, quantity, frequency, core benefits or cancellation rights and will provide a reasonable opportunity to cancel before it takes effect.
