Trust belongs in the detail
The marks and sourcing statements shown with a Boteane tea or Discovery box explain the standards or suitability that apply to that particular product. Certification and suitability information is product-specific: the product page and delivered label are the source of truth for the tea you are buying. Not every Boteane product carries every certification.
Fairtrade
Where the Fairtrade mark or statement appears, the relevant product or ingredients are sourced through a Fairtrade-certified supply chain under the conditions applying to that mark. Fairtrade certification means the growers who picked the tea received a guaranteed minimum price, plus a Fairtrade Premium their cooperative invests in the things that last: schools, clean water, a future that does not depend on the weather.
Rainforest Alliance
Where shown, the relevant tea or ingredients are sourced through farms or supply chains connected to Rainforest Alliance certification requirements. The standard covers the land the tea grows on as well as what ends up in the tin: soil quality, biodiversity and worker welfare all have to be evidenced before a farm can use the mark.
Ethical Tea Partnership
Boteane works with suppliers connected to the Ethical Tea Partnership, an industry partnership focused on a fairer, more sustainable tea sector. This is a sourcing partnership rather than a consumer product certification, and we describe it that way deliberately.
Vegan
Where a product or box is marked vegan, its recipe is supplied as containing no animal-derived ingredients. Always check the individual product information and delivered label, particularly if you avoid animal-derived ingredients for allergy reasons, because a recipe statement is not a guarantee against cross-contact.
How we support these statements
Certifications and suitability can vary by product, ingredient, supplier and batch. We show a mark only where we hold current supporting information for the product or supply chain concerned. We retain relevant supplier declarations and certification evidence and review the wording when a recipe, supplier or sourcing route changes.
