The anniversary gift that is not flowers
Rose is the anniversary flower. It is also brown by Thursday. There is a version of the same gesture that lasts three months and costs six pounds fifty.
Cut roses are seen properly for about six days. Nobody minds. That is what flowers are for, and there is nothing wrong with a thing that is beautiful and then stops.
But there is another version of it that sits on a kitchen worktop until March, gets used most evenings, and smells of roses every time the lid comes off.
The short answer
Rose Petals Tea and Jasmine Flower Tea are £6.50 each and both are whole flowers with nothing blended in. Both are caffeine free, so they work after dinner. For the gift with both names on it, the Bespoke Blend is £30 and takes a twenty-five character label, which fits two first names and a year.
A flower you can drink
The Rose Petals pouch contains dried rose petals and nothing else, grown in the Nile River Delta and Fayoum in Egypt at between 500 and 1,000 feet. One heaped teaspoon, boiling water, three to seven minutes, and the cup smells the way the stems did on the first day.
Not rose flavouring. Not a rose blend with a black tea hiding underneath it. The ingredients list is one word long, which is rarer than it sounds.
The comparison with cut flowers is not really about money. It is about how many times the gift gets noticed. Flowers are noticed once, beautifully, and then gradually stop being noticed. A tin on a worktop gets noticed every time somebody reaches past it.
Five anniversary gifts, from £6.50
£7 for 15g, fifteen cups, up to £30 for 100g. That is 47p a cup down to 30p.
Rose or jasmine
Rose is softer, sweeter and more forgiving, so it is the safer first choice. Jasmine is more perfumed and more insistent, and it is brewed hot only. Both are a single ingredient with no tea base, so neither contains any caffeine.
The two, side by side
Rose petals, and that is the complete ingredients list. Soft, faintly sweet, perfumed without being heavy. Egypt, from the Nile River Delta and Fayoum. Hot, iced, or cold brewed, which is the one that matters for a summer anniversary.
Jasmine flowers, also the complete list. Heady and properly floral, more forward than rose and harder to ignore. Brewed hot, one heaped teaspoon per 200ml, three to seven minutes.
Rose takes a long cold steep without losing anything. Four to twelve hours in cold water in the fridge gives a pale pink infusion that tastes more of the flower than the hot version does, and it looks like something when you pour it.
Putting both names on it
The Bespoke Blend is £30 and prints up to twenty-five characters on a glass jar with a bamboo lid. Two first names and a year is almost always under twenty-five, which is the whole trick.
You choose a tea base, green, black or caffeine free rooibos, then two flower layers from lavender, rose petals, calendula and marigold, then you type the label. For an anniversary the obvious build is rooibos with rose petals chosen twice: caffeine free, strongly floral, and drinkable at eleven at night when the two of you have finally sat down.
- DAVE AND PRIYA, OCT 2026 at twenty-three characters
- TEN YEARS OF TUESDAYS at twenty-one
- THE FLAT ON MILL ROAD at twenty-one
- YEAR ONE at eight, and all the better for it
It arrives in a sage green gifting tube with a striped ribbon, so there is no wrapping and no card balanced on top of it.
Serve it in glass
Rose brews pale pink and jasmine brews pale gold, and both of those are wasted in a mug. A glass cup or a clear teapot turns a £6.50 tea into something that looks like it cost considerably more, because the petals open and move while it brews.
The other thing worth knowing is that rose petals go into almost anything. A spoonful stirred through a green tea or a rooibos somebody already drinks turns their existing cupboard into something that tastes like the gift, which is the cheapest trick in the shop.
If the taste is not yours to guess
For a couple whose cupboard you have never seen, the Subscription Gift Experience is £25 a month, bought as a prepaid three, six or twelve months and paid for once. Five loose leaf teas a box, around seventy-five cups, through the letterbox.
You choose the box when you order, so you are still making a decision rather than shrugging: Green Tea, Caffeine-Free, Fruity Tea, or Surprise Them. Add an Easy-Peasy Teapot or a Cold Brew Bottle to the cart with it and that arrives free in the first delivery, £32 of glassware on top.
Because it is prepaid, nothing renews and nothing appears on your card months later. It also solves the thing most anniversary gifts solve badly. It turns up again next month, and the month after that, which is considerably longer than anybody remembers a card.
Questions we get
Is Rose Petals Tea actually just rose petals?
Yes. The ingredients list is rose petals, with no tea base and no flavouring. The same is true of Jasmine Flower Tea.
Do flower teas contain caffeine?
No. Rose Petals Tea and Jasmine Flower Tea are both caffeine free, which is exactly why they work as an evening gift.
How many cups do I get from a pouch?
The 15g size makes about fifteen cups at one heaped teaspoon per 200 to 260ml. Larger sizes run up to 100g and a hundred cups.
Can I cold brew rose petals?
Yes. Steep in cold water and chill for four to twelve hours. Jasmine Flower Tea is brewed hot.
What is the best anniversary build for a Bespoke Blend?
Rooibos base with Pink Rose Petals chosen for both botanical layers. Caffeine free, strongly floral, and it looks the part in the glass jar.
Will it arrive gift wrapped?
The Bespoke Blend arrives in a ribboned Boteane gifting tube. Single teas arrive in their pouches.
What is the traditional first anniversary gift?
Paper, in most lists, with flowers attached to each year and roses turning up early. A pouch of rose petals is a quiet way of keeping the flower and losing the vase.
What if they do not like it?
The Flavour Promise applies. Tell us within fourteen days and we credit the tea back.
